How do you propose tackling the state’s estimated $6 billion budget deficit?
In the fiscal year 2013 the State is projected to receive an estimated $32 billion in revenue, the problem is the State is currently projected to spend $38.7 billion. The state needs to adjust the amount of money it is spending like any Minnesota family has too. Therefore, I support Zero-based budgeting plan, having each agency explain why the money spent in the last biennium needs to be spent again this biennium. Bottom line is overregulation, overspending and over taxation are costing Minnesota jobs.
In what ways, if any, should the Legislature assist in jump-starting the state’s economy?
The amount of over regulation, over spending and over taxation at the State level is currently hurting the private sector. Taxes of all varieties need to be either lowered or repealed leaving more money in the private sector which in turn will allow businesses to expand and grow. It is the private sector that will create long term job and economic growth, not the government.
How will you ensure Minnesotans have access to quality education?
The Minnesota constitution requires that all schools have a general, uniform, thorough and efficient system. The education of Minnesota children needs to be given back to the local community. What works well in one community may not work in another, therefore, the control of how a district educates its children should be decided with local parents and community through its elected school board and shouldn’t be controlled from St. Paul.
How can Minnesota lower rising health care costs and maintain quality? Should the state participate in and accept money attached to the federal government overhaul of health care?
The best thing Minnesota can do to continue its high standard of health care options is move towards a market-based, consumer driven health care market. We need to lower the number of mandates forced on health coverage providers and allow the consumer to make the decision of what is the best coverage for their family.
Minnesota should not participate in the financially unsustainable overhaul of healthcare offered by the Federal government. This is going to take away an individual’s choice in regards their healthcare.
Should the state government play a role in encouraging investment in alternative energy businesses that could bring “green collar” jobs to Minnesota? Should the state government offer more financial incentives to encourage homeowners to invest in energy conserving technology?
Minnesota can encourage business growth and investment in any area including green jobs by getting out of the way and allow the private sector the tools it needs to create economic security that Minnesota families need. Every dollar the State takes out of a private sector business is one less dollar that business has to invest in jobs and its growth.
The state needs to look at ways to encourage homeowners to invest in energy conserving technology. One way to do this is through tax credits.
What issues specific to your district will you spearhead in the next biennium?
Job security through economic growth. |

The final push is on!!! First thing I want to do is thank those of you that have already volunteered. With only two weeks until the November 2nd election I am asking for each one of you to consider volunteering for 2 hours during the next 2 weeks.
The opportunities to help include:
The phone banks are up a running in Bloomington with get out the vote (GOTV) calling beginning this week. Please contact Jim Lund at 612-968-1132 and sign up to make some calls.
For those of you that don't like making phone calls we have two weekends left that we need help door knocking and lit drops. The response has been overall very positive to our message with the people of SD 63.
We have a great chance to take both House Seats and the Senate seat back from the DFL. But we need your help!
If everyone volunteered 2 hours over the next 2 weeks we will have a great chance to take SD 63 back from DFL control.

Thank you for taking the time to check out my website!
I am humbled and excited to be the Republican endorsed candidate for State Senator in State Senate District 63. I have lived in Richfield over 20 years now; both of my daughters were educated through a combination of home schooling, private school and finished by graduating from Richfield Public Schools. I am a Residential Remodeler, so as small business owner, I understand what it takes to make a living, support a family and what it is like to make tough choices many families have to make during these tough economic times. Friends, the biggest thing we need to do is to stop the overreaching arm of the government into our lives. We need to create an environment friendly to the private sector that will encourage private sector growth and investment which in turn will allow each person to reach their own individual potential. The private sector will turn this economy around not the State Government! Government cannot provide the long term stability our economy needs. State government is supposed to provide the infrastructure so the people of the great state of Minnesota and SD 63, can do what they do best, work hard, provide for their families the way they see best and find innovative ways to get things done both now and in the future. Our state is facing a huge budget short fall. The current leadership in the State Senate continues to believe that we don’t have a spending problem but rather we have a revenue problem. Just like every family does with their own household budget the State must learn to live within its means. The State can’t continue to do business as usual in regards to spending. I know that I am not the only one that is thinking enough is enough. Our state is facing another budget short fall. Based on the past two years how do you think the State Senate with its current leadership is going to handle any short fall? Raising taxes can not be the only solution to this problem. I know that I am not the only one that is thinking enough is enough. Some of the other areas that I care about are: - Jobs
- The quality and cost of education
- Transportation including roads and bridges
- Health care
I have had the opportunity to many of you over the past several months. I am looking forward to meeting more in the weeks ahead!
Please check back as I will be updating items on the website.
